PRS CUTS ADMIN RATES FROM JANUARY 2027
WHAT HAPPENED
PRS for Music says it will cut administration deductions on January 1: public performance, including live, from 23% to 20%; cinema from 19% to 16%; and broadcast from 14.9% to 14.4%. It projects £30m more for writers, composers and publishers over three years.
WHY INDEPENDENT ARTISTS SHOULD CARE
For PRS members, lower fees can mean more eligible royalties paid through. But a lower rate cannot pay work that is unregistered or unmatched.
THE DEEPER ARTIST LESSON
Royalty collection is a system: ownership, registrations, usage reports and matching must connect.
WHAT TO DO NOW
• Register every song and split.
• Report live setlists promptly.
• Audit statements for missing uses.
